This essay offers insight into my motivation for publishing my first novel, which is based on my experience of the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake in 1995. The essay also offers glimpses of my background in the Kobe area, my university experience in Tokyo, and what it was like adapting to life as an international student in London during the COVID-19 pandemic.
